Ordrup, Gentofte · Denmark
In 1942, Danish designer Finn Juhl built a small house in the quiet suburb of Charlottenlund, just north of Copenhagen — and then spent the next five decades filling it with his furniture, art collection and ideas about how human beings should live.
Juhl was the designer who broke with the heavy, rectilinear traditions of Danish furniture and introduced something more sculptural, more sensual. His chairs look as if they're floating. The house is the most complete expression of his thinking: every room is a carefully composed conversation between form and function, between art and everyday life.
Visiting is a bit like being let into a private world. The rooms are intimate, the light is beautiful, and the proportion of everything feels just right.
The most beautiful house I've ever visited. Every single object placed with such intention. I went twice.
