Ellen Roosval von Hallwyl and art historian Johnny Roosval created Villa Muramaris as their Gotland summer home from 1915. The house and garden combined local craft, Italian villa influences, sculpture and painting; the main villa was destroyed by fire in 2013 and is not open as a museum.
